This event has ended.

Ohnen Toriyama, priest of the Jodo Shu Seizan Fukakusa Sect, is also a recognized photographer who has received numerous awards. The ultimate beauty he has pursued for a prolonged time was finally found in the sacred statues of Buddha. He has been taking photos of statues of Buddha for over 20 years. The Buddha statues featured in the photos are: “Kongo-rikishi Zou” by Dave King, which were carved from large trees into strong and robust statues; “Shitennou Zou” , the four Deva statues with marvelous colors, which last for several hundred of years without fading; “Bodheisattava”, whose wooden textures emerge because the paint has chipped off over the years; “Amitabhas”, which are slender, elegant and sublime figures; and “Bhaisajyaguru”, which instills a feeling of calmness and peace in viewers. The photos presented in the exhibition are of Buddha statues made during the Kamakura and Muromachi Eras (1200-1500).
