James Castle "Soot and Spit"
Ameringer | McEnery | Yohe
This event has ended.
James Castle's work transcends any simple label of "outsider art." His drawings, books, and assemblages (also called constructions) include home interiors rendered in meticulous detail, mysterious Idaho landscapes, and playful experimentations with scale, collage, and text. Although he received no formal artistic training and worked outside of the art community, Castle's innovative output parallels and even anticipates important developments in 20th century modernism. The exhibition will include some of the larges and rarest of Castle's constructions, highlighted in an recent traveling museum retrospective.
