This event has ended.

Brooklyn, NY-The Super Thing: NYC goes DEVO at 3rd Ward is a DEVO inspired group show experience of art, adventure and music featuring 20 Postcard Diaries prints by Mark Mothersbaugh! The Super Thing art exhibition and music event is dedicated to the zealous, jerky synth-powered, midwestern heroes of DEVO and showcases art which shares their bold aesthetics, politics and humor. DEVO has already inspired legions with their politics, new wave getup of nuclear hazmat suits, retro-futuristic plastic pomps, and ziggurat-shaped energy dome flower pot hats and you can expect the same from their art.

In addition to Mark's work, a room in 3rd Ward will be outfitted with a ziggurat-energy dome-shaped Zen Arcade full of interactive art including Molleindustria's latest video game, which joins spiritual deities in a Mortal Combat styled fight over the world. The show also features Yuliya Lanina's indecent robotic Mechanical Dolls, and Mike Dee's layered music videos; D. Dominick Lombardi, Jill Henderson, Victor Cox, and Paul McGuirk's mutants; Wayne Coe's dismembered soldiers; Michael Robinson's ingenious stealthy logos; and Marcos Lorn Ortega's ink drawings. Visitors will also be encouraged to enlist in Cassie Thornton's Future Inc. consultant project which assists artists in navigating the corporate art world.

Opening night will be a Super Thing Circus with live music, interactive art, limited edition merchandise, and a cyber appearance by Mark Mothersbaugh himself. Guests are encouraged to get dressed DEVO style! And photographers will be on hand to capture the insanity. Curator Alison B. Levy reminds us, Collectively, we creatively, are ready to do what we must do for the super thing! Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are DEVO!
