"Bread and Soccer" Exhibition
This event has ended.
At Austrian Cultural Forum NYC
Media: Sculpture, Installation, Video installation
In June 2008, Austria and Switzerland play host to the European championship soccer tournament UEFA Euro 2008. Spectators and players alike will celebrate a game that has been a cultural phenomenon long before satellite broadcasting made it possible for a single match to be experienced in real time by people all around the globe. The exhibition explores the cult of spectatorship that surrounds such large sporting events where it meets the culture of participation - from the point of view of players and fans alike. The eleven featured artists set out to explore this important conjunction of identification and self-expression.
