One of the Far East’s many facets is the intersection of the often harsh, day-to-day reality and the fascinating, dense worlds of dreams. The universe of the opera, peopled by symbolic costumes is continued in elegant, romantic Hong Kong film and carried over into meditative valleys and gardens – all in the canyons of gigantic skyscrapers in the new and old mega-cities. It is worth noting that, to those living there, these parallel worlds can assume the same importance as the actual circumstances themselves.
