This event has ended.

This exhibition, along with its accompanying publication, introduces a group of twenty-two little-known stone devotional sculptures and architectural fragments that collectively represent fundamental developments in Chinese religion and mortuary culture, from the Han (206 BCE–220 CE) through the Tang dynasty (618–907). They range in size, purpose, and patronage: small devotional tablets, large-scale carvings once housed in caves, and mortuary artifacts. Some works were commissioned by individual donors, others were sponsored by the court and members of the aristocracy. Some came from underground burials where they formed part of an auspicious environment intended for enjoyment by the dead.
