This event has ended.

Collaborators since childhood, Matthew and Hilary explore a wide range of art historical contexts, appropriating ideas and imagery from Abstract Expressionism to B-movies. "Together," they say, "We inhabit these genres, which we know only through histories. We simultaneously celebrate and satirize their austerity via our responsibilities to each other as collaborators."

The installation features new collaborative paintings surrounded by a tangential scattering of objects and sculptures. One piece, a totem pole, suggests the idea of ritualistic practices while others embody a more comical sincerity. The exhibit has two distinct sections, light and dark, which the artists' describe as, "a metaphor for the duality that encompasses all of our work as collaborators. Scooping and trolling through all grains of life we balance ourselves and stand together, trying hard to stand as one; if we release our grip all will sift into particles. We work together, we play together, we have past and we have future."
