This event has ended.

Hartigan's remarkable career began in the 1950s as part of the School of Abstract Expressionists (The New York School). Shortly after her first solo exhibition in New York in 1951 her work was purchased by The Museum of Modern Art, The Metropolitan Museum, The Whitney Museum, The Brooklyn Museum, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Corcoran Gallery and The Hirshhorn Museum, among others.

She was the only woman selected for the MoMA's pivotal exhibition Twelve Americans (1956) and its influential traveling show The New American Paintings (1958). She is a precursor to the Pop Art movement and acknowledged for her contribution in the traveling exhibition Handpainted Pop which opened at MoCA in Los Angeles in 1992. In 2000 her work was featured in the Whitney Museum's The American Century: Art & Culture, Part II: 1950 - 2000.

This exhibition coincides with the April release of the documentary film Pushing Boundaries in a Painter's World: The Art & Life of Grace Hartigan.
