Gasser & Grunert Gallery presents "Uprooted," its first exhibition with Katie Holten.

Born in Ireland and now based in New York City, Holten’s globetrotting presence has left its mark - both through her art and persona - in many corners around the world. Her constant flow of creation, skillfully manifested in all her installations, photographs and drawings, redefine not only Nature – as a concept and subject - but also challenge environmental and geographical conventions, with a need to “re-map” the globe.

Whether it is creating a bazaar in Mexico City or turning the Irish pavilion at the Venice Biennale into an alternative cultural venue, Holten’s work encompasses people, feelings, stories and places. Her public art projects and created environments are mirrored in her intimate drawings that create, connect and transform daily systems of manifold elements.

Holten gracefully closes the circle between the natural and artificial through the mixing of a wide range of media and recycled materials. She also visualizes new worlds and changing continents in everyday things such as her own scratched nail polish.

In uprooted Holten will present a large tree, a small forest, roots and new drawings. Through these delicate works on paper, as well as with her low-tech sculptures and installations, she blends personal aspects with local and universal elements in an endless loop of mutual correspondence.
