This event has ended.

Catherine Kernan's imagery is rooted in nature. Combining printmaking and painting through the means of abstraction, she develops a visual code that balances rhythm and texture, a sense of order and chaos, or as Kernan puts it, embodies "the control and serendipity of life itself." Though Catherine embraces the immediacy of gesture, her process evolves slowly. Using woodblocks in unorthodox ways as a transfer tool, she painstakingly builds each image layer by layer, responding to each stage in the process to determine the next move. Through this fluid and free-form approach, she succeeds in creating compositions that are dense in information. To her, peering through the layers, suggests an exploration of time, signifying the attempt to decipher the relative importance of events and memories.
