"The Journal of Evidence Weekly, Vol. 140" is an artist book by Martin Wilner. This sketchbook is one volume in a series Wilner executes while riding the New York City subway. Though compositionally he works within a strict format, speech bubbles, onomatopoeia, and dismembered arms, legs, and faces fuse together, conveying the chaotic and cacophonous experience of the train in visual terms.
The Journal of Evidence Weekly is now celebrating its 10th anniversary. Since its inception, Wilner has contributed to the journal every time he has boarded a subway. He records the dates and subway lines of each ride with its corresponding content; the result is personal and chronological.
Martin Wilner has exhibited extensively in New York and has been included in many group exhibitions both nationally and internationally. His work has been written about in The Brooklyn Rail, Time Out, The Village Voice, and The New Yorker among others. His work was featured in the spring 2008 issue of BOMB magazine.
This exhibition is presented in cooperation with Pierogi Gallery.
