At Broadway Windows
Media: Sculpture, Installation

Scavenged step-ladders wend a circuitous and playful path through the Windows. Weathered wooden rungs lead up and down and around, turning alternatively left and then right--vainly beckoning viewers to climb within a fancifully architected realm. Like an ornamental frieze tracing zigzags along ancient passageways, these steep steps embellish their dimensional space.

Whitney relishes the adventure of first seeking, and then ultimately acquiring, abandoned objects with intriguing contours suited to artful reinvention. "My intent is to animate a discarded object, to turn the wooden ladder into something else--giving it a new story and a new meaning. So, I collected hundreds of linear feet with the deliberate thought of making stars, only to discover that the cutoffs from my creative process started forming into the very zigzag that inspired Climbing. Ideally, my building of continuing sections will never end."
