This event has ended.

In his fifth solo exhibition at the gallery, Descarfino presents his audience with a body of work that exemplifies transition in urban landscapes drawn largely from the New York City boroughs. The artist’s fascination lies in territories that allude to their pasts as they relate to present temporal conditions. Descarfino explores these liminal states, and in doing so, conjures up lyrical passages from familiar, seemingly banal environments.

Descarfino allows intuition and evocation of historical and cultural references to influence his work as he explores the interplay of image and the act of painting. Compositions of loose forms are shaped by light and space, while washes of calming blues and earth tones are punctuated by assertions of yellow and orange. Colors and lines appear to lightly bleed or seep into one another, further emphasizing the continual state of flux.
