This event has ended.

Organized by The Korean Heritage Foundation (KHF), based in Arlington, Virginia, the exhibition is the first tour on this theme to be shown on the East coast of the U.S. The collection consists of approximately 12 original historical maps which were made during the 17th and 18th century in England and France. The exhibition will also include photographs that focus on the natural beauty of Dokdo island and its smaller islets. Located in the East Sea, about 134 miles east of the Korean mainland, Dokdo is the easternmost territory of Korea. It consists of two main volcanic islands called Dongdo (East island) and Seodo (West island) as well as 89 smaller islets. Dokdo is also a base for 80 species of plants, 37 species of insects. The islands are habited by thousands of migratory birds. The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to explore a historic origin and variations on the name of the “Sea of Korea” as it is shown on the European maps and to appreciate the beauty of nature that is found on Dokdo island.
