Forum Gallery presents Robert Bauer: Portraits, an exhibition of recent paintings and drawings. Bauer’s portraits are known for their sensitivity and the introspective nature of his subjects. There is a palpable sense of life in each of these exceptionally intimate works, born of the technique Bauer employs. Because he paints only people he knows he is able to penetrate the psyche of each and represent their personal characteristics with visual veracity. Bauer’s lengthy painting process involves a combination of working directly from the subject as well as from drawings and photographs made or taken at various stages of the painting. The artist works with intense concentration in his studio, painting, sanding, and repainting each portrait over a period of several months. The portraits in the current exhibition represent work completed in the last four years.
