This event has ended.

Few contemporary painters can match Paul Rickert’s ability to capture the tranquil charm, innate natural beauty and changing weather of the Maine coastline. For over three decades, working in oil and watercolor, he has conveyed the expansiveness of water and horizons, dramatic shifts in weather, magical effects of light, and the solidity of vernacular architecture. His views of Maine are at once alive and contemplative.

Rickert’s art grows out of intense study of nature and a full understanding of light, shadow and form at different times of day. As the paintings in A Seaward View demonstrate, his most successful works are unique combinations of his keen observation, deeply felt emotions, and impeccable technique. Rickert’s style is a painterly realism that conveys both the look and feel of coastal Maine. Paul Rickert believes that the function of his art is to transcend this impediment, to achieve a kind of apotheosis of the spirit of his subjects; or, as he has expressed it, to play with timelessness ...to hold on to something that is changeable and make it eternal.
