José Luis Guerín "In the City of Sylvia"

Anthology Film Archives

This event has ended.

2007, 84 minutes, 35mm. In French with English subtitles. Special thanks to Montse Pedros (Eddie Saeta Films).
A young foreigner in Strasbourg spends his days sitting at an outdoor café, sketching the gestures and expressions of the women around him. Haunted by the memory of Sylvia, a woman he encountered there years before, he waits patiently for her to reappear. Whether passively observing the urban landscape and its inhabitants, or pursuing a woman who just might be the object of his meditations, he is the focal point of Guerín’s impossibly delicate, alert, and sensitive film, a movie that foregrounds the act of looking like few others.

–Friday, December 12 through Thursday, December 18 at 7:00 & 9:00 nightly. Add’t screenings on Saturday & Sunday at 5:00.
