poster for Gabriel Acevedo Velarde Exhibition

This event has ended.

Acevedo Velarde will open the exhibition with a video-based performance that depicts features of a conference, a music concert, and a political speech, unfolding a rather intimist discourse about leading himself. The notion of society as an organism raises many questions, such as how to trace the borders between individuals and groups, or how to re-invent freewill in a context that seems to be forcing tricky collective integrations. Acevedo's work constantly oscillates between these general issues and personal, meaningless-looking matters, thus finding a place for individual poetics in the midst of distorted universalist projections. "It scares me when someone makes a pompous statement about something one agrees with; that's how I feel with my internal voice". A video-document of the performance will remain in the gallery after the opening day, along with drawings and digital prints related to the presentation.
