Michael Dominick "Iron Pour"

Texas Firehouse

This event has ended.

The artist will be creating a new series of molten iron drawings at this event. The work is a departure from my usual oeuvre. Unlike the work of Cai Guo-Qiang, these drawings reflect the spontaneity of their making. There is no advanced planning other than the specially prepared paper that is remarkably resistant to 2800 degree molten iron. The resulting gestural strokes and splashes, persuading the liquid fire on its collision course with the picture plane, are reminiscent of the works of Jackson Pollack. But unlike the maestro, these drawings come into being in a matter of seconds. No two are the same, and each one successfully captures the chaos of the moment in a dynamic, spontaneous and visually compelling manner.
