New York-based artist Sara Greenberger Rafferty’s works in sculpture, photography, video, and sound form a conceptual vocabulary that comes together in surreal, often bitterly humorous installations. For this Kitchen-commissioned exhibition, Greenberger Rafferty draws on diverse themes and found imagery relating to food and eating, stand-up comedy, and psychiatric convalescence to explore the existential absurdities of life. Suggesting short, possible scenarios for an absent actor, the works in this exhibition zero in on the role of the solo performer -- the comic, the artist, the psychoanalytic subject -- as a way to open up larger questions about the tension between futility and agency, the imaginary and the prosaic reality of everyday life.
