Hiroyuki Nakamura's works explore the cultural construction of masculinity in a series on Japanese cowboys in domestic scenes, and a series on an aging Japanese Everyman in various states of perplexity.
Nakamura is included in the exhibition, Making a Home: Contemporary Japanese Artists in New York at the Japan Society. His work was selected as part of New American Paintings #68ci, published by Open Studios Press. Nakamura's works are in the collection of Princeton University Museum, and have been presented in the Bronx Museum and the Newark Museum. Born in 1977 in Japan, Nakamura holds an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York, and is the recipient of numerous residency awards.
