"Heyday! Frederick W. Glasier’s American Circus, 1890-1925" Exhibition
1285 Avenue of the Americas Art Gallery
This event has ended.
A new exhibition offers a detailed glimpse into the most dynamic period of the American circus through the extraordinary photographs of Frederick W. Glasier (1866-1950). On view will be 64 Glasier photographs chronicling the private world of the circus, as well as 13 lithographic posters showing how the circus industry promoted itself in the towns and cities it visited. Drawn from the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida, works on view include images of the circus coming to town, photographs of performers carrying out spectacular feats and behind-the-scenes shots of circus members engaging in every-day activities.
