"Drawing in Space" Exhibition

Tracing the complex interaction of form and space, the exhibition consists of over 60 modern and contemporary works. The bold lines of Picasso's rare Dinard sketchbook suggest mass and physicality on a two-dimensional plane while Calder's thin contours propel his sculptures to changing points in space. Gonzalez and Caro, Richier and Giacometti transform naturally solid materials into pliant forms that seem to defy the figures' inherent volume. Other artists, such as Torres-Garcia, Arp, Braque, Miro and Rauschenberg, simultaneously imply and negate three-dimensionality in their reliefs and collages. The artists included in the exhibition share an artistic concern best expressed by Gonzalez:
