This event has ended.

PaulaBarr chelsea presents Abstractions, a solo photography exhibition featuring the work of Carl Berg, an artist widely exhibited in the New York City area.

Curtis Verdun said, "Abstract art isn't simply a lack of realism. It's rather a heightened depiction of what the subject really is."

PaulaBarr chelsea presents the work of an artist who gives a sound meaning to Verdun’s words.

Berg’s task is to notice and reflect: finding the artful in the ordinary, the depth and complexity in the superficial and the detail in the unnoticed. His images are intended to diminish the distinction between the world of the photographic image and that of other visually artistic productions. Berg’s images are not premeditated, constructed or creatively lighted, but are expressive of the spontaneous nature of that instant opportunity, unlikely to be presented again.

Aside from his artistic work, Carl Berg has been a practicing clinical psychologist for the past 30 years in New York City. He has taught at New York University, The New School for Social Research, and Marymount Manhattan College, New York City. He made his first appearance in a national magazine in the recent issue of Hanging Loose Press, issue #91. An exhibition of his work is scheduled for May, 2009 at Camera Work Gallery, Scranton, PA.
