This event has ended.

James Cohan Gallery partners with Human Rights First to present a panel discussion for the Made in China campaign. This event is free and open to the public. A cocktail reception and viewing of the current Alison Elizabeth Taylor exhibition will begin at 6:45pm, followed by the discussion at 7:00pm.

In the lead up to the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China is promoting itself as a harmonious and peaceful world power. Yet China is arming one of the world's most gruesome conflicts today - the crisis in Darfur. China is the largest supplier of small arms to Sudan and also relies on Sudanese oil to support its economic growth. Sudan, likewise, relies on the income from Chinese oil sales to purchase even more weapons. So far, over 300,000 people have lost their lives and more than 2.5 million are homeless in this continuing conflict. What can be done to stop this deadly and inhumane cycle?

Please join Betsy Apple and Lee Feinstein, to learn about this multi-dimensional problem and how it is possible to convince China to stop arms sales to Sudan. Unlike other approaches to China on Darfur, this one asks only that the Chinese amend their actions. With the Olympics only two months away, this discussion is as timely as it is urgent.

RSVP by Wednesday, June 18th to events@humanrightsfirst.org or 212.845.5262. Space is Limited.
