This event has ended.

Spoon+Fork and Kuroda, Seitaro present Mad Flower. Join Kuroda and Spoon+Fork as they unveil an exhibit featuring new Kuroda pieces and a display of student’s artwork from a special live painting session done with the artist especially for this event.

After a successful run with Kuroda’s first exhibit, Mad Dog, which sold 24 of Kuroda’s canine-inspired pieces in one week, the S+F team will present a second exhibit entitled Mad Flower, a collaborative art exhibit between Kuroda and New York City’s youth. Students in the Citizen Schools apprenticeship after-school program in East Harlem’s Isaac Newton Middle School will have the exciting opportunity to have their creations on display during this event. Their flower-inspired works were created within the hpgrp Gallery in Kuroda’s Point Kuroda Seitaro workspace during a live painting session with the legend. Kuroda’s live paint sessions involve rhythm and sound used to inspire his group of artists. For this project Kuroda worked with the students to dissect the flowers, pulling emotions and feelings out in order to give the flowers a special look and feel on paper.

Inspired by his love to work with the youth, whom he has collaborated with over 100 times for special projects, Kuroda, Seitaro and Spoon+Fork have created a fun and inviting exhibit for young and old, novice and expert to enjoy. Bringing their mastery of stationary and book design to the hands of attendees for the closing reception, Spoon+Fork have designed a limited edition Kuroda notebook filled with exclusive artwork which will be alongside blank pages for attendees to produce their own creative responses they may feel inspired to draw. Come to Mad Flower to see an icon’s work next to the display of raw talent cultivated by Kuroda in his workshop with the students; and get inspired to make your own creations too.
