This event has ended.

David Schorr’s latest body of work, GOODS, is a series of still-life paintings, each one foot square. Subjects are usually commercial goods, or the bottles, boxes and jars which contain them. Some
are familiar—a Land O Lakes butter box, Campari and Pellegrino bottles; some obsolete —Noxzema jars, books in tattered dust jackets; and some are only remembered, such as the jewel-like ink
bottles. The objects are never grounded; they float through space oblivious to gravity.

Schorr often pairs objects that are linked through color, design, aesthetic kinship, or textual reference. For example, the orange label of a Veuve Cliquot champagne bottle corresponds to the same color in the label for La Morena salsa, and the badger from The Wind
in the Willows is paired with a vintage bottle of Badger Muselage. Schorr acquires the ‘goods’ while traveling, from friends, and finds many of the “remembered” objects on eBay. With access to resources like eBay, (the artist calls it “America’s attic”) Schorr creates images tinged with nostalgia.
