Forum Gallery presents an exhibition of new paintings by the award-winning, internationally exhibited artist Andrea J. Smith. In her work, classical and contemporary painting techniques are combined to create distinctly modern portraits and still-lifes. The rigidity and order of Smith’s foreground compositions are juxtaposed to the abstraction of the backgrounds. Using a palette knife, the artist is exploring new ways to create texture and cover the canvas. Taking her inspiration from rusted metal and weathered materials, Smith has created images within which the realistic elements of classical paintings contrast and harmonize with contemporary abstraction.
