Coco Fusco "Buried Pig with Moros"

DBA Christian Haye

This event has ended.

In "Buried Pig with Moros," Fusco explores the strange life of the Pershing legend, in which U.S. General “Blackjack” Pershing ordered that Islam-practicing Moro insurgents be executed with bullets dipped in pig blood and buried facing away from Mecca, covered with pig entrails-- a rumor which supposedly had the effect of quelling Muslim insurrection-- with a disembodied performance and a museological display of historical artifacts and memorabilia about the uprisings in Mindanao. The centerpiece of the exhibition is an audio installation dramatizing an actual university lecture on interrogation methods delivered by a former Special Forces member and security expert in 2005. The transcript of the lecture was posted on Wikileaks at the end of 2007 by Peryton, the same whistle-blower who disclosed Guantanamo Bay's main manual, "Camp Delta Standard Operating Procedure," in 2004.
