This event has ended.

The David Findlay Galleries are pleased to present an exhibition of recent paintings by the Vermont artist Kathleen Kolb. This is Ms. Kolb’s third solo exhibition at the galleries.
In a fast-paced and often rootless world, Kathleen Kolb is very much an artist of place, very attached and committed to a particular part of the world. Vermont is that particular locale to which she has given the fullness of her large talent and devoted the purity of her eye. There are three characteristic objects of her attention: the Vermont landscape as evocation of natural beauty, the study of geometric shape through the depiction of buildings and houses, and the small scale loggers who make their living off the land in a very hands-on, hard-scrabble way. These are merely divisions of subject matter because in all her work there is a profound unity in the quality of her sensual observation. One could say that that her entire oeuvre is a continuous homage to the splendor and power of light. Thus, a small painting of a felled tree in a snow-covered forest at dawn is an explosion of light reminiscent of what J.M.W. Turner achieves in one of his sun-drenched canvases. It is the power of light, especially those fleeting moments of the day before sunset and after dawn, which call forth to the fullest extent her artistic intelligence and devotion.
