This event has ended.

Malek’s work for this exhibition focuses on repeated material process. Using oil paint and enamel on wood panel, Malek demonstrates painting as a form of replication. In addition to his continued rendering of concentric geometric forms, each painting in the show has a twin. The son of a Biology professor, Malek indicates his exposure to the sciences in his choice of subject: works bear names like Anaphase, which refers to the particular stage in cell division wherein the cells share uncoiled strands of DNA. In this piece two diamonds act as the mirror image of one another, each sharing bands of color, angles and lines.

Applying an architectural vocabulary to a typically commercial medium, Clare Brew examines pure use of neon light. Using clean lines to define the edges of virtual three-dimensional shapes, she asks the viewer’s brain to perceive the remainder of the form. Like Malek, Brew hales from a family of scientists. Also like Malek, evidence of the artist’s upbringing is indicated in her work: Brew’s rendering of a seemingly random curve is arrived at by way of a five-page parabolic equation. Brew has been commissioned for a number of large-scale public art projects in her native England, including a massive installation at the entrance pavilion of the London Olympics 2012.
