This event has ended.

Tamar Zinn has been painting away in her New York studio for over 30 years. For most of that time her work changed incrementally, subtly, but always the subject matter was light and space, whether depicting the landscape or in recent years in her abstract, architecturally inspired compositions. Her paintings were cerebral, quiet but rich - and based on a fascination with architecture and the way light can either create or obscure space. In these new paintings, however, the solidity of architecture has given way to a new energy and playfulness that is a radical departure from her past work. Zinn is now responding to different muses -- music and dance. The paintings are infused with rhythm and movement and express a joie de vivre that the calm light of previous paintings had hidden from view.

Zinn's process continues to be organic, beginning with a network of loosely drawn shapes from which a harmonious composition gradually emerges. But now her compositions boogie and her palette has brightened. The paintings mirror how she experiences the time-based art forms of music and dance- small moments of activity darting through areas of calm. These paintings are filled with rhythm- slow, fluid passages set against fast paced jumbles and movement- broad extended gestures set against angular syncopation.
