Cobourn’s recent paintings, drawings, and watercolors incorporate abstract forms in an illusionistic space, and use a wide range of color harmonies. While his images are derived from natural reference, they move from representation to abstraction. In "Painting Land" Cobourn’s fleetingly impressionistic floral depictions and hazy landscapes straddle the line between what is seen and what is felt, between perception and inventions. There is a constant oscillation between the gestural application of paint and the minimal elements in the image.
